|| CUJ Organises Blood Donation Camp
Jammu 3 March: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Central University of Jammu organized blood Donation Camp in collaboration with Government Medical College Jammu in Temporary Academic Block, Sainik Colony, Jammu.
While delivering the key note address Dr. Vijay Shawney, Professor and Head, Department of Haematology, GMC Jammu, highlighted the significances and the health benefits of donating blood. He said that Jammu region has been suffering from scarcity of blood. For instance, the GMC figures less than the national average of blood storage. This requires a coordinated campaign to encourage voluntarism in donating blood.
Prof Ashok Aima, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu in his presidential remark mentioned that blood donation is a social commitment and urged the students, faculty and staff members to come forward to donate the blood so that it can save a precious life of someone. He also appreciated the effort of NSS unit to collaborate with GMC for organizing such events and advised to organize such events in the future. These should be organized in rural villages. The Vice Chancellor himself donated the blood followed by other donors.
Earlier, Prof Devanand Dean Students Welfare welcomed the guest and dignitaries and mentioned that the NSS unit has been successfully organizing Blood Donation Camp for the past 2 years.
About 80 volunteers donated the blood. NSS programme coordinator, Dr J. Jeganaathan delivered a vote of thanks and apprised the audience about the various NSS activities related to public health.

Cultural Youth Exchange Program was conducted between China and Mumbai University. We had a delegation of 100 Chinese students and officials from their country. The Chinese delegation was welcomed with a guard of honour with NSS claps. In traditional Indian style, a mark of kumkum was applied on their foreheads and were welcomed with a smile.
The event began with the introduction of the delegates from China and the members from the Indian Ministry who made this event possible. After felicitating them, Mr Mote, gave a briefing about Mumbai University in English, which was translated in Chinese as well. Next, Mr Chang spoke about China and its Universities.
Students from Mumbai university performed two Chinese songs to make our guests feel at home. Dance performances were done in bharatnatyam and maratha styles. The Chinese too gave performances a beautiful solo singing performance and a graceful dance performance. After this, the students were given time to interact with each other, with a hope of sharing ideas and cultures. The event was concluded by giving a token of love to the delegates from China.
I am thankful to the Mumbai University, Bidve Sir and Pujari Sir for giving NSS students this opportunity to interact with students from a country of such cultural heritage as China. We got to learn a lot in the time we spent with them and made friends overseas.
