T.K.SIVAKUMAR 18-11-2010 NSS PROGRAMME OFFICER, UNIT 30, SOURASHTRA COLLEGE, VILACHERRY MAIN ROAD, PASUMALAI POST, MADURAI 625009 TAMILNADU CELL 9965132051 EMAIL tksivakumar2006@yahoo.co.in Pilot testing on Training Manual for Capacity Building on Parenting for NSS Programme Officers - A Report Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), An Autonomus Organisation under the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, organized a Pilot testing on Training Manual for Capacity Building on Parenting for NSS Programme Officers from 12 to 14 November 2010 in RGNIYD campus in which 40 NSS Programme Officers from Tamilnadu, Andra Pradesh and Pondicherry participated. The Objectives of the training were: • To understand the concept of parenting. • To understand the needs and concerns of the adolescents. • To be able to interact and communicate with adolescents. • To enhance parenting skills. The Objectives of the pilot testing • To scrutinize the module. • To make some the module is able to deliver what it intends to deliver • To come up with suggestions wherever necessary The entire training programme divided into seven modules- such as 1. Get ready for the training- Note to the facilitator 2. Introduction to the training programme 3. Parenting – An overview 4. Understand your adolescent for good parenting 5. Dimensions of parenting 6. Improve your parenting 7. Practice life skills to improve parenting skills Mrs. Sunitha Rajan, Lecturer, RGNIYD, Dr. Yamuna, Adolescent Pediatrician and National Adolescent Team Member, Mrs.S.Lalitha, Training Officer, RGNIYD and Dr. Subashree, Lecturer, RGNIYD and Mrs. Priya Mary George , Training Officer, RGNIYD were the Resource persons for the modules. The training included topics such as basics of parenting skills, parental duties, Do’s and Don’ts of parenting, some tips to avoid negative aspects of parenting, needs and concerns of adolescents, Behavioural control, concept of life skills, self awareness and empathy, critical and creative thinking, problem solving and decision making, interpersonal relationships, coping with emotions and coping with stress. The entire training programme had been designed in the form of interactions, group discussion , activities , workshops and practicals. Excellent hospitality, accommodation and food were provided to the participants. The stay in Training Officer, RGNIYD was a memorable one and this haunting memory would be ever green in the mind and hearts of the participants.

Madhusoodanan 18-11-2010 Programme Officer NAM College Kallikkandy Kannur - Kerala SEVENTY FIVE UNITS OF BLOOD HAVE BEEN DONATED TO BLOOD BANK TELLICHERRY ON 11-11 -2010.BLOOD DETECTION TOO WAS ARRANGED TO IDENTIFY THE BLOOD GROUP FIRST YEAR STUDENTS. MORE THAN 50 UNITS HAVE BEEN DONATED BY GIRL STUDENTS AND IT IS AMAZING TO NOTICE THE READYNESS OF GIRLS TO DONATE BLOOD. THIS VENTURE WAS AMPLY SUPPORTED BY KERALA AIDS CONTROL SOCIETY.
