|| Environment Programme & Plantation Drive at MIET
On the World Environment Day, NSS Unit “ PRAYASS” of Model Institute of Engineering & Technology (MIET) conducted an environment awareness programme in collaboration with the Directorate of Environment and Remote Sensing by organizing a seminar and tree plantation by the students and faculty.
A need for creating awareness is felt because we are spoiling our environment inadvertently by contributing to air pollution, water pollution and noise pollution etc. This is leading to innumerous health problems and also premature deaths. Air pollution only leads to lung disorders, asthmatic problems and respiratory diseases. Smoke from the vehicles, industries especially the petrochemical ones contribute the maximum.
Creation of awareness about the environment commenced with a tantalizing speech by Dr. Arun K Gupta Chairman, MIER Group of Institutions enumerating its effects and the actions we should take to save environment.
Prof Uma Sharma, President, Patanjali Yog Samiti, J&K was the Chief Guest on this function. She highlighted the importance of this day with special thrust on the value of the medicinal plants. Directorate of Environment and Remote Sensing sponsored the whole programme. Mr. R.C. Sharma, Dy Conservator from the department, provided all the help by way of banners and other items required for generating interest amongst the students. Students spoke on a variety of issues like climate change, global warming, depletion of ozone layer etc, which are bothering all of us and suggested measures for arresting the pollution at the individual and governmental level. After the seminar, there was a healthy discussion on the subject. Mr. R.C. Sharma steered the discussion so as to know the actual worries of the students and give guidelines for their implementation. He also spelled various programmes the government is undertaking for preservation of the environment.
